Pandoras Box powers 40th years
anniversary of legendary Rock am Ring festival
Nürburgring, Germany – Pandoras Box Software delivered stunning visual content for fans at Rock am Ring, one of the largest music festivals in Germany. Pandoras Box partner and consultant Benjamin Brostian, CIO at epicto, was chosen by festival agency DreamHaus to provide show control and deliver content to LED displays at the event’s two largest stages – the Utopia Stage and the Mandora Stage – throughout the three-day show.
The iconic festival, which takes place at the famous Nürburgring racetrack, saw sets from bands including Slipknot, Korn, Sleep Token, Bring me the Horizon and more. Pandoras Box and Widget Designer was used to delivered content to four screens on the Utopia Stage and three screens on the Mandora Stage.
“We’ve worked with Pandoras Box for a very very long time. It is a very powerful and reliable software solution, and that’s why we used it at Rock am Ring,” says Benjamin Brostian. “One of the key aspects in our role now is what you can bring into the software, like with Widget Designer, which is one of the biggest assets in the industry. With Widget Designer we were able to break down the entire show, bring in very complex scenarios and turn it into a user-friendly environment, with no need to have operators everywhere to keep track of what’s happening across stages. Widget Designer is absolutely mighty for this, there is nothing better currently.”
The team handled all signal management and managed all content in Pandoras Box to ensure consistency across both stages, with a total of 3.2 terabytes of content used this year. Widget Designer was used to manage the entire workflow.
Widget Designer’s functionality was essential for managing spontaneous changes during the event. Using a CSV-based cue sheet integration, the system tracked each cue and estimated timing, allowing the team to instantly adjust for lineup changes, sponsor graphics, and interactive elements like social media walls and crowd engagement visuals. “With so much changing during the event, such as last-minute content adjustments or lineup updates, Widget Designer allowed us to easily trigger events—like the ‘kiss cam’ with heart overlays or Instagram hashtag wall integration—enabling us to adapt instantly with minimal resources required, from both a technical and human operator perspective,” adds Brostian.
Rock am Ring and its sister festival, Rock im Park, attracted a combined attendance of over 150,000 attendees this year.
