Pandoras Box powers spectacular projections
at Schlosslichtspiele Karlsruhe
SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE, Karlsruhe – Pandoras Box Software, the visual backbone for a public projection mapping with 300.000 visitors, transforming the baroque façade of Karlsruhe Palace into a living canvas for light and media art.
As part of the production team, Pandoras Box partner and consultant Benjamin Brostian, CIO at epicto, worked with the organizers to design and deliver the show control setup, ensuring seamless playback and precise synchronization of complex projections across the palace’s expansive front.
The Schlosslichtspiele are a central highlight of Karlsruhe’s cultural calendar, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each summer. This year’s edition presented a curated mix of international and local artists, each turning the palace façade into a stage for large-scale projection mapping, immersive storytelling, and experimental light art.
“Pandoras Box has been our go-to solution for years when it comes to highly reliable and flexible show control,” says Benjamin Brostian. “For a project like Schlosslichtspiele, the challenge is not just the scale of the canvas, but the complexity of the artistic content. With Widget Designer, we’re able to streamline workflows, integrate interactive elements, and provide a system that operators can handle intuitively—even in situations where quick adjustments are necessary. Since 2015, the Schlosslichtspiele have relied on Pandoras Box as their show control solution of choice. Year after year, the production team continues to trust the software as a reliable and precise workhorse that delivers consistency at the highest level.”
The team deployed Pandoras Box and Widget Designer to manage all projection mapping, cue automation, and interactive elements, from scheduled artistic showcases to sponsor integrations. The system’s scalability and reliability were essential to handling the nightly performances, which ran over several weeks with constantly changing lineups and content.
With its combination of cutting-edge software and technical expertise, the project ensured a consistent, high-quality visitor experience—turning the Karlsruhe Palace once again into a cultural landmark of light, art, and technology.
